FAQs
Does the whitening process destroy the teeth enamel?
Most patients believe that teeth whitening destroys the enamel of the teeth. However, the truth is that when the procedure takes place in the doctor’s office or at home with the approved materials and the correct protocols are followed, it can give a nice and aesthetic result for the patient without causing any permanent problems in the teeth.
How can I restore a missing tooth?
A missing tooth can be restored by placing an implant into the jaw, under certain conditions that can be examined with 3D imaging, or by placing a bridge (metal-ceramic or zirconium) provided that there are teeth in front and behind the gap so that the bridge can be fitted.
Does the root canal treatment process hurt?
The endodontic treatment (root canal treatment) is a commonly misunderstood procedure in dentistry. Endodontic treatment of a tooth is carried out by a dentist in order to alleviate the patient’s pain, usually as a result of a very decayed tooth, or from a cyst. After this procedure, the patient will most likely feel a slight discomfort around the tooth, especially when chewing.
My teeth are in very good condition, I do not have a single damaged one. Do I still need a clean?
Teeth cleaning is a procedure in which dental plaque is removed from the surface of the teeth to avoid problems such as gingivitis and periodontitis, which can silently cause irreversible, long-term conditions for the teeth and tissues that surround them. During the process, the oral cavity is checked for the possible presence of decayed teeth or soft tissue deformities that need further monitoring. Just because you don’t have a toothache does not mean that you should not visit the dentist. Prevention is very important and for this reason we usually make appointments every six months for cleaning and control of the oral cavity.
Why do I need fillings if I am not in pain?
Just like anything in life, prevention in dentistry is a very important weapon that can help avoid major problems with the teeth and the oral cavity in general. A decayed tooth can cause severe pain when the caries is close to the nerve of the tooth, which will most likely lead to the need of root canal treatment. Usually the teeth tend to warn us, as they react to hot / cold drinks or even to the air during breathing. If the caries is in the early stage, then the problem can be corrected by filling the cavity. Other times the tooth may not give any indication, and the tooth may become infected, and develops into a radicular cyst. For this reason, everyone should have regular check-ups and proceed with preventative treatment where necessary.
At what age should I bring my child to the dentist for the first time?
Children need extra special care and treatment in a dental clinic, so we urge parents to book their first visit from the very first tooth that develops in a child’s oral cavity. Parents will be informed about how to care and brush the teeth, the eating habits that a child should develop so that carries do not appear in the new teeth, and also how to build the child’s sense of trust with the dentist, something that will have a positive impact in the future in case any treatment is required. We also inform parents that they should maintain their child’s regular visits (every six months) to the dental clinic to build familiarity and repetition of what needs to be done in an effort to strengthen the habit within the children. When the children reach the age when they start fluoride application, the parents will be informed by phone at intervals that will be judged by the dentist, depending on the case.
Is implant placement a painful process?
Implant placement is a surgical procedure in which a titanium screw is placed in the bone so that there is a base for the prosthesis, which will replace the missing tooth. Like any surgery, implant placement has some post-operative symptoms like swelling, pain and discomfort which are treated with specific instructions. All of this definitely depends on the scale of the operation performed and in most cases our patients always comment, “Doctor, that did not hurt as much as I expected”, “If I knew it would not hurt, I would have done it many years ago “,” The only thing that bothers me are the stitches”,” The swelling is not as much as I expected “.
I want to fix my smile. What do I need to do?
A smile is very important for everyone. A beautiful smile boosts self-confidence and raises self-esteem. With the development of technology, patients can now see the result they will have before the procedure even begins and make any changes that are needed before proceeding to the procedure for the final prosthetic work. This is called Smile Design where, with the help of technology, we can digitally retrieve the original condition, photograph the patient and, in collaboration with the teeth technician, design the smile of each patient individually based on the proportions of the face and the wishes of the patient – whilst always aiming to achieve a natural and beautiful result.
Orthodontic treatment can also be considered as an option. After consultation with our Orthodontist, information can be provided about the methods (Invisalign, lingual braces, clear braces etc.) that can be used in each case in order to achieve an aesthetic result.
How often should I get my teeth cleaned?
Teeth cleaning should be done every six months unless the dentist advises otherwise. The purpose of regular visits to the dentist for cleaning is to remove the dental plaque present on the teeth in order to avoid future problems such as gingivitis and periodontitis. The dentist is also given the opportunity to check the oral cavity for possible caries or other problems that may be present.
What are the differences between porcelain veneers and composite veneers?
Veneers are used mainly for aesthetic purposes, and can be either porcelain or composite veneers. Porcelain veneers are durable and last longer, do not absorb stains and overall is a minimally invasive procedure. On the other hand, composite veneers are less durable than porcelain veneers and due to the porosity of their composition, absorb stains. However they can be more easily repaired in case of wear, require fewer visits to the dentist to complete the treatment, and cost less than porcelain veneers.
What is the best age for my child's first visit to the Orthodontist?
It is recommended to visit the Orthodontist for the time time at 6-7 years old. At this age, problems with the jaw growth and teeth development can be diagnosed and treated early. The Orthodontist will identify if there is a problem, its severity, and the appropriate time to start treatment.
